Patrick O’Brien’s contemporary technique class builds skills and strategies to deepen the body's understanding of momentum, efficiency, and dynamics. The warm-up floor exercises encourage dancers to think differently about absorbing weight into the ground, and structured improvisations ignite tactile awareness and an internal rhythm.

Capoeira is a martial art that combines dance, acrobatics, partner work, and self defense. The game of Capoeira uses cartwheels, kicks, and ground movements to create a dialogue between two partners. All levels are welcome to this intro class meant to dip your toes into the game of Capoeira.

Class will include learning Dalcroze 20 gestures and a section of Seiko Takata's "Mother(1938)***Lecture will focus on History of Dance Exchange Between America and Japan During Formative Years of Modern Dance. Discussion lead by Norton Owen, Director of Preservation at Jacob's Pillow.
This workshop focuses on physical research through the study of floor techniques, improvisation, and structure movement. Discovering Motor mechanics of moving into, out of, and around the floor we will work on how to exert energy efficiently using various surfaces of the body as mobilizers. Through physical, athletic, and dynamic movement, participants will be encouraged to reach their full movement potential. The final phrase will draw from Rovaco Dance Company’s exciting repertory work!
