Patrick O’Brien Presents Illicit Acquirement (World Premiere)

Illicit Acquirement delves into the dark side consumer culture, focusing on what happens when people are both driven and defined by the perpetual need to possess things. O’Brien pushes this desire to the extreme: the point at which it leads to stealing or violence towards others, exploding the moral conflict that exists within consumerism and probing the most basic of human instincts. This gritty, risk-taking physical dance-theatre piece integrates sinuous, full-bodied movement with intricate gestures to create an alien, yet very much of this world parable about individualism, survival, and community.

Patrick O'Brien's residency and performances at LPAC are part of the CUNY Dance Initiative, which receives major support from the Howard Gilman Foundation and Mertz Gilmore Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Jerome Robbins Foundation, the SHS Foundation, the Harkness Foundation for Dance, and Dance/NYC’s New York City Dance Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program, made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. CDI is spearheaded and administered by the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College.
