“The Bound Diablo,” is an all-BIPOC immersive theater production about moving on–from a relationship, home, country, job, way of thinking, or plane of existence. The work is largely inspired by African American performer, activist, and nightlife icon Josephine Baker, who frequently “moved on” and transitioned throughout her incredible life and career. The themes of the show will reflect anecdotes from Baker’s life and draw upon the experiences of the co-directors as BIPOC creatives in NYC. This Rough Draft showing/open rehearsal represents one step in the journey of our development as we bring this work to life.
